The post-registration intercept: a glass bottom sheet slides up over the blurred dashboard to open the wizard.
UX & Growth Case Study
Humanizing Crypto Onboarding for a 7% Conversion Leap
70% of our new users had never traded crypto before signing up. We were routing every one of them straight into a professional trading cockpit built for experts. Here's how a short onboarding wizard fixed that, and lifted platform-wide conversion by 7%.

01. The Problem Space
The Cognitive Overload Crisis
Our exchange ran a full professional suite: Spot markets, Margin trading, API bots, Copy Trading, and OTC desks. Built for traders. Overwhelming for everyone else.
User research showed over 70% of new signups had no prior crypto or trading experience.
Every new account landed on the same pro-level dashboard: order books, candlestick charts, and trading jargon. Most users didn't know what "Margin" meant. They wanted to buy and hold Bitcoin, or send USDT to a friend. We were paying full acquisition cost to lose them at the very last step.
02. The Strategy
Empathy via Progressive Profiling
The Trading Tools Wizard
We needed to close the gap between what a user wanted and what the platform assumed they wanted. If we could learn a user's primary intent in the first 10 seconds, we could remove the noise and point them straight to one confident first action.
The solution: instead of defaulting every signup to the pro dashboard, we intercepted new users right after registration with a mobile-first Trading Tools Wizard: a short set of plain-English questions, not a financial quiz.
03. The Architecture
The Smart Routing Engine
A lightweight routing layer sat between signup and the dashboard: a bottom-sheet intercept that read wizard answers and updated application state without a full page reload.
Step 1 — The Instant Intercept
Right after registration, the dashboard blurs behind a glass bottom sheet that introduces the wizard and opens the first question.
Step 2 — The Assessment Matrix
Users tap through 2–3 visual prompts that score three vectors (Knowledge, Risk Tolerance, and Time Horizon):
- Hold / Invest (low risk, long horizon): routes to Copy Trading & OTC.
- Purchase crypto (fiat gateway): routes directly to OTC / Direct Buy.
- Day trade (high knowledge, short horizon): routes to Spot & Margin, with the full charting UI unlocked.
- Automated yield (medium risk): routes to Trading Bots.
- Transfer money: routes straight to the Wallet / Withdraw screen.
Step 3 — Curated Product Activation
The frontend reads the answers and adapts state: unused tabs are hidden, and a short contextual walkthrough guides the user to their first meaningful action inside their personalized dashboard.
04. Visuals
The UX Execution
The assessment matrix: three plain-English questions that quietly score knowledge, risk tolerance, and time horizon.
The curated dashboard: a user who chose "invest long-term" lands directly in Copy Trading, with unrelated tabs hidden.
05. The Outcomes
Driving Bottom-Line Growth
Designing for the 70% (not just the professional traders) lowered the barrier to entry and turned a leaky signup funnel into an activation engine.
+7% Conversion
Matching each user to the product that fit their risk profile and knowledge lifted platform-wide conversion by 7%.
Faster Time-to-First-Trade
Users reached their first trade or transfer without hunting through a menu built for professionals.
Dead Zones Unlocked
OTC desks and automated Trading Bots (previously under-used) saw adoption climb once they were offered as answers to a stated need instead of buried menu items.
